One of the best moments at your wedding, apart from officially being married, is watching your guests’ faces light up, or tear up, when you surprise them with something unexpected. And, adding those surprises will also give everyone something to talk about for years to come.
Here are some of my favourite things to do; but when it comes to adding that wow factor, the only limit is your imagination.
A special moment for the two of you
The private moments before your ceremony are a great time to surprise each other. You could send your spouse a special gift or letter, or arrange for a romantic place away from the crowds to capture the first time you lay eyes on each other.
You're in it together
Your guests will expect your dad, mum or another relative/special person to walk you down the aisle towards your partner. Why not surprise all of your guests by walking hand in hand towards centre stage and into your new life as you become the newly married couple.
Suprise... welcome to our wedding
If you really want to surprise your guests, pretend you’re not having a wedding at all. Pull the greatest hoax of all by inviting them to your engagement party, birthday party or similar and then announce that you are getting married right there and then. As your celebrant I will hide or blend with your guests then when the time is right I will be in place.
Hello from afar
Surprise messages are an awesome way to surprise your guests or partner. There are endless ways you can deliver them, including via signs down the aisle; video messages from pets, loved ones from overseas and other guests who couldn’t attend or organise a digital wish from your partner’s favourite celebrity for example.
Surprise your witnesses
You have chosen your witnesses, you know they will definitely be attending why not surprise them on the big day? And watch and feel the emotion.
We have some big news!
At what other point in time will you have all your loved ones gathered in one place? Your wedding is the perfect opportunity to surprise everyone with big news such as a pregnancy, a big trip, a new job, a move or other life adventure.
First dance
Plan a choreographed first dance. Actually, it doesn’t even have to be the first dance… or even with your partner or children. Put on a show with one of your parents, your wedding party, or organise a surprise show with a small selection of your guests.
Finish with a bang
Keep the surprises coming, and finish the night with a beautiful display of colour with a confetti gun as you leave your celebration.
There are so many fabulous things you can do to add that hint of surprise to your wedding and I would love to help you make your dream day a reality.
